Apple Special Event: 2018 MacBook Air

The MacBook Air’s design was last updated in 2015, after that it wasn’t touched again until 2017 when it got a little spec bump just enough to make it worth buying. All Apple did was bring the MacBook Air into 2018 during the event.

Now moving in further to the speakers which now have 25% more volume than previous generations according to Apple. Then the keyboard is updated to use the latest generation of Apple’s butterfly keys like that found on the new MacBook Pro. With security backed by the T2 chip, in the top left of the keyboard next to the function keys, is TouchID so you can quickly unlock your Mac or pay online using Apple Pay. This chip also brings better security for the drive encryption and secure boot. Moving south of the keyboard you find the 20% larger force touch trackpad which replaces the previous multi-touch trackpad.

The performance also gets a little better. The Air is powered by an 8th generation i5 Intel processor. The base memory configuration is 8GB but it can be upgraded up to 16GB. The speed and relatively low price will make it great for students or home users. The base storage capacity is 128GB SSD which isn’t very useful because the OS will take up the majority of the space then add some apps and pictures then you will be full. I would recommend that you upgrade to a higher storage capacity like 256GB, 512GB, or 1.5TB. Choose wisely when customizing your Mac because none of these parts are user-accessible and upgradeable. This time the MacBook Air will be sold in three colors including space gray, silver, and gold.

In the box is, of course, is the MacBook Air. With it a 30-watt USB-C power adapter and USB-C to USB-C cable for charging.

Like usual, all of Apple products pass their environmental checkbox, but this MacBook Air checks a new box. The components of this Mac is enclosed in 100% recycled aluminum frame that Apple says can reduce their carbon footprint by 47%. This follows the news from Apple that past year the whole company is running on 100% renewable energy.
