After a long time of Apple’s MacBook and MacBook Pro users complaining about issues with their keyboards Apple has finally issued a recall replacing certain problematic keys and in some cases, the whole keyboard for free.
Apple states that the recall includes keyboards on the following MacBook and MacBook Pro models:
- MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2015)
- MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016)
- MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, 2017)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
To find which MacBook you have click on the Apple menu then click on “About This Mac”.
Many users have complained to Apple that their new butterfly mechanism keyboard breaks easily. Apple says the following issues may arise while using a faulty keyboard:
- buttons type repeat automatically
- buttons clicked don’t register
- keys may not push like they should
If you believe that your MacBook or MacBook Pro is having these issues and it is a qualifying model Apple suggest that you contact a service provider, set up an appointment at an Apple retail store or mail your device into a repair store. (See link below)
