A long time ago when the first mobile industry began the cellular infrastructure was not strong enough. Many people had homes and businesses with many dead zones or places with little to no cellular service. Fast forward to 2008 and the iPhone is released, the smartphone revolution begins to take over the mobile market, and still, there are dead zones. Today this problem still exists.
So how can you solve this problem? Wi-Fi (internet) is the solution. Yes, you could just purchase or rent a cellular broadcaster but that could be an additional $5 to $10 to your monthly bill, in addition to being another clunky piece of hardware connected to your router.
There has to be another option right? Well, there it’s called Wi-Fi Calling. To use it you need an iPhone 5c or newer and a supported cellphone carrier.
Now that you have everything that you need, on your iPhone open “Settings” then go to “Phone”. In the menu under the “Call” settings tap “Wi-Fi Calling”. Then toggle on “Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone”. You will then be promoted by your cell phone carrier to authorize the use of Wi-Fi Calling. Then you will need to put in an Emergency address for emergency services to use if they need to, you can change this address too if you need to.
Now that you have enabled Wi-Fi Calling, when you have low cellular connection Wi-Fi Calling will enable its self. When enabled “LTE” will be replaced by “Wi-Fi” next to the service bar.
